Garden Edging

Garden edging is most commonly used to border flower beds from a lawn to keep the garden looking neat and well maintained. Timber edging is also popularly used along garden paths to segregate a path from the rest of the garden.

Garden edging can become an attractive design feature in your garden as well as serving a practical purpose.

For soil retention, border edging and path edging you can essentially use any kind of timber to fit your requirements. Our garden edging is a very economical way to add structure to your garden, and is easily installed.

The most popular items for garden edging are the machine round mini sleepers. These are smooth rounded so minimal chance of splinters and are an attractive light natural wood colour. The sleepers are pressure treated to help ensure a long life and are ideal for bordering garden paths.

Alternatively standard 100 x 22mm lengths of timber can be used as garden edging and shuttering. These are 4.2m in length and extremely cost effective. You can cut the timber part way through the width to make it pliable enough to bend round corners.

Of course in doing so you will weaken the board, but it will allow a seamless curve around flower beds and path ways if that is the look you are after.

For a traditional log roll appearance use either machine round posts or machine round half posts. Simply cut the posts to the height you want your border to be, allowing for half the length to be put into the ground.

Making Garden Edging from Bollards and Poles

If you are using timber poles, the pointed end should be driven at least 300mm into the ground. If the poles are very long then drive them in for at least 600mm.

Bollards tend to be wider than poles so if you are using them for retaining wall and soil purposes then a minimum of 600mm is required beneath the ground. You can secure them further using postmix.
