Kebony Decking Boards
Kebony uses a concept that is an environmentally friendly alternative to tropical timber. The kebony process, which involves impregnation and heat using bio waste liquid, changes the cell structure of the Southern Yellow Pine. This process makes the wood harder and more durable.
Due to the hardness of the boards, kebony decking is similar to hardwood. Therefore sharp tools will be required for cutting and machining it.
Benefits of using Kebony Decking
Kebony decking boards offer impressive resistance to wear, weather and decay, and has a low carbon footprint. Over time, the boards will turn from a golden brown colour to an attractive silver colour because of their exposure to the sun.
If you would prefer to keep the boards in their original state, you can use paint, oil or stain to preserve them. These treatments are not required however for protection.
How to Use
You will need stainless or acid-proof screws to fix the Kebony decking boards down. That is because other type of screws could stain the boards over time.
It is a good idea to pre-drill for the fixings as this gives better results. Focus on the ends of the boards especially to avoid splitting. We also recommend leaving a 7mm gap between the boards to allow for slight movement, ventilation and drainage.
