GATES

Driveway Gates

Driveway gates is really the name given to any driveway gate or gates which could be used across a driveway typically leading up to a house. All of the driveway gates currently listed are made of timber and fall into two groups AVS have high level driveway gates which are typically up to approximately 2.25m high and afford privacy to the property. Lower level driveway gates such as field gates have an open construction so while offering security from vehicle access they don’t afford the privacy of the close style, taller driveway gates.

Types of Gate

AVS supply a range of gate styles basically these fall into two types in three groups of gates. Convex gates which curve upwards in the centre and are called ‘turner’ gates and a similar range of slatted top gates which are called ‘Lowery’, next we have gates with straight tops the traditional square or rectangular gate called the ’Gainsborough’ in the AVS driveway gate range with the matching butler gate which is the version of the ‘Gainsborough’ with slatted top half part of the gate and finally we have concave driveway gates which curve downwards in the centre and are called the ‘Constable’ range with a similar version with slatted tops the ‘Rosetti’ so in summary three versions of driveway gate each available in a version with a slatted top part, its privacy is less of an issue and if you wish to let in more light or be more open. These driveway gates can be manufactured in softwood or hardwood, driveway gates are available in a range of thicknesses and the ones shown on the website have a finished thickness of 57mm an even more substantial version is available to special order, this version of the AVS driveway gate range are 70mm thick.

Why Buy a thicker Driveway Gate?

There are two reasons why one would have a driveway gate which was thicker, either because you desire to have a slightly stronger and more robust gate this becomes more important as the gate becomes wider or because you have chosen to automate the gate rather than open or close it manually. In cases where gates are expected to be automated as well as making these from thicker timber we are also able to add a solid bottom rail which will help the gate withstand the continual pressure of the gate automation equipment pushing and pulling the gate open and closed repeatedly in one place. So this is great news for customers wishing to have their gates automated as the AVS driveway gates can cater for this as and you join a long line of customers today who feel that gate automation is the way forward for their driveway gates.

Which material will you choose for your Driveway Gate?

Will you choose hardwood or softwood for your driveway gate this is a question you will have to decide the answer to before proceeding to order a driveway gate. It is undoubtedly true that hardwood driveway gates are slightly stronger than softwood driveway gates for any given thickness and more importantly they have a certain presence and feel of quality about them which may suit you or your property. Yes a hardwood driveway gate is more expensive but you may feel it’s worth it, if it is going to grace the front of your property for many years to come. Using timber stain on softwood driveway gates is common with hardwood driveway gates customers frequently choose just to give the driveway gate a coat of diluted linseed oil and re-apply the linseed periodically to seal the gate at the same time allowing it to breathe. A field gate can be a good driveway gate because field gates are routinely available in widths up to 3.6m wide which means often a single driveway gate in the form of a field gate can span the driveway, if you choose not to automate your driveway gate then having a single gate to open will be faster than having to open two separate gates. Another difference between them is that field gates will not catch the wind like a solid and taller driveway gate, this may be important if you are in an exposed location as with a large solid gate it can sometimes be difficult to physically hold the driveway gate against the wind, so whatever you decide to do driveway gates can complete your property and compliment and promote your property.
