Decking Materials

Decking materials in a full range are provided for on the AVS website this is just the place to come for all your decking materials. Decking materials in good measure can be found on the AVS Fencing on line website shop. It is just the place to come for all your decking materials which can be ordered on line from the comfort from your own home and delivered to you on our transport, ready for you to start building your new garden decking. What decking materials do you need to complete your deck and for this will vary according to the type of deck you have in mind broadly speaking there are two types of decks, ground level decks which are situated just above ground level and raised decks which may be multi-levelled or tiered decks and these are situated further above the ground ranging from 450mm to 3m or more. Broadly speaking the starting off point for your deck is to construct a framework from timber rails typically a mixture of 150 x 47mm and 100 x 47mm using these two sizes of timber decking rails create a serious of joists which is what builders normally call the supporting timbers for a floor and the garden decking is very similar to a floor created externally. A series of joists set between 400mm and 600mm apart is set up, these can be fixed to, for example 150 x 47mm forming the edge of the deck with the joists being joined to this edge rail with joist hangers which are an easy method of butting the joists and creating a strong joint. The edge rails and joists can be supported using short fence posts dug into the ground and concreted and fixed to the timber decking joists or may be the joists if they are very closed to the ground can be rested on bricks, blocks of bits of slab and indeed no one method needs to be used when fixing your decking materials to create your garden decking. The underside of a deck unless it is a high-level deck is unlikely to been seen by anybody other than yourself during constructing the deck with the decking materials. Once you have finished constructing the framework for your garden decking, it is a good idea to test it thoroughly by resting some decking boards loosely upon the joists and checking for level and firmness by walking around on the boards and ensuring that the framework is rigid and does not move. What most people think about as decking materials are in fact the decking boards these are the parts of the deck you see when you use it.

Decking Boards

What decking boards do you choose; this very much depends upon the look and appearance that you are trying to create for your new garden decking and is down to personal preference. Examples of decking boards are decking boards which are smooth on one side and decking boards which are grooved or decking boards which are reeded the other variation with decking boards is both the width of the decking board and the thickness of the decking board. The width of the decking board will affect how many boards are needed to cover a square metre broadly speaking the wider the decking board the cheaper the price the square metre is likely to be when compared with the cost per linear metre. AVS Fencing decking materials do not include decking boards which are very thin, with our decking boards starting at a finished thickness of 28mm rising to 34mm approximately; our decking board don’t need the joists to be as close together as some thinner decking boards on the marketplace. This is advantageous to you because it means potentially the framework for your decking when using AVS decking boards will cost less than some budget decking boards. Finally the other item of decking materials needed to complete most decks is the hand railing and balustrading systems. These are essential for raised level decks to prevent people falling or slipping from your deck but maybe optional on lower level decks. The hand railing is fitted between newel posts which are set between 1.8m and 2.4m apart around the edge of the deck these newel posts are typically joined onto the decking frame and joist system beneath the deck boards rather than being extensions of the posts that are be put into the ground to support the deck, however, with raised with level decking this may be appropriate to create a stronger and more integral hand railing system. Each section of hand railing complete with a hand rail, spindles or balustrades and a base rail is normally constructed on the ground and then lifted into position between two newel posts and fitted using the brackets available from AVS Fencing. This is the section for you whenever your requirement in decking materials at AVS Fencings on line shop.
