Masonry fixings are cost effective mechanical fixings for fixing steel and timber to brick or concrete surfaces. When purchasing fixings consideration needs to be given to the thickness of the timber or steel being fixed. For example, with using masonry fixings to fix a timber wall plate 100 x 47mm then the fixing needs to be suitable for a thickness of 47mm, unless the fixing is countersunk into the timber. Different masonry fixings have a different pull out strength, so while a frame fixing will be suitable for mounting a timber wall plate, for a small gate an all steel mechanical masonry would have a greater pull out value. It is normal to have three masonry fixings for a 1.8m long timber wall plate and two masonry fixings for a 1.2m or 0.9m wall plate.
