Both the 150x47mm and the 100x47mm base rails can be installed as *joists using joist hangers. These are simply nailed or screwed onto both the opposing rail/post and the rail that is being supported.
When using 100x47mm as **noggins simply nail, (using 100mm nails,) or screw (using 90mm Carpenters Mates,) through the existing *joist into the end of the **noggin.
*Joists are the main support base rails that make up the underlying framework of a deck. A spacing of 450-600mm would be suggested to suit most deck boards. It would be suggested that you test the spacing by laying some boards down and standing on them. If the boards bow allot then you know the spacing is too much, do this before you screw the boards down, just in case you need to then adjust the frame work.
**Noggins are a small joist placed between joists as extra support under the boards and for the framework itself. A spacing of 450-600mm would be the spacing suggested to suit most deck boards.
***Support beams are beams that are attached to the upright posts, and can be used to support the joists.
