The most common fence height is 6'' (1.8m) and the minimum post length for this height will be 8'' (2.4m). If you have a gravel board or a trellis remember to allow for this on top. A minimum of 600mm or 2'' is needed embedded into the ground and ideally 760mm or 2'' 6".

On sloping ground with panel fences, the panels are run level and stepped up or down, this also needs to be added to the post length.
