Most areas of the South East have been hit by varying amounts of snow and ice during the last week. The cold weather is set to continue; with below freezing temperatures during the night, resulting in what will be a very slow thaw of the snow. Make sure you stay safe during the cold snap by laying rock salt or enviro thaw on paths and driveways surrounding your home. It is always practical to have a store of a winter aggregate in your shed, garage or porch so that you are never left unprepared for icy weather.

Stay warm in the evenings by stocking up on logs for a wood burning stove or fireplace. AVS Fencing Supplies use a mixture of only the best logs for burning, resulting in minimal spitting and longer burning times. These logs include slow burning oak, beech and ash. We don’t use sweet chestnut as this wood has a tendency to spit and therefore is unsuitable for open fires. Softwood log mixes are cheaper than hardwood logs because they burn much faster, so although the initial cost is less softwood logs are not as cost effective over a length of time. Be sure to store firewood undercover, but open to air to keep the logs dry.

Recently the government held a summit, where the managing director of British Gas said that “more price rises are inevitable”.

As the discussion regarding rising energy prices continues, more and more people are turning to alternative energy sources to heat their homes.

You can stay warm in your home this winter, without increasing the cost of your heating bill. Stocking up on hardwood logs means you can cut down on the time spent heating your home. Here at AVS Fencing we stock a large selection of hardwood logs and kindling ready for the cold winter weather. Our selection of logs has been specifically chosen for their suitability to be used for indoor fireplaces, reducing spitting and giving you longer burning times.

Snow has played a part in many Britons lives over the past years. So before the snow sets in, consider grabbing some winter essentials to help make life more comfortable. Stock up on grit for your paths and driveways, when the weather turns icy, and be ready with a snow shovel so you don’t get stuck!

For these and more winter weather essentials, visit one of our eight branches or shop online today.

Have you considered using decorative aggregates to quickly and easily give your garden a new look, that will last throughout all the seasons? Well, decorative aggregates from AVS Fencing can help you achieve a new garden look, whilst being easy to maintain.

Our cobbles and stones can be used for a variety of applications. They are ideal for water features or ponds, but can also be used for borders and edging, as an alternative to boards or bricks. Stones also make a great, easy alternative to slabs for patio areas or decking. A smaller stone, such as Cotswold Buff is excellent for driveways and paths, and will give a new look to your home.

As well as standard stones and cobbles, AVS Fencing also stock more decorative, coloured aggregates, which can add vibrancy to your garden. Choose from blue, green or plum to add colour and interest to your flower beds. Or perhaps use the aggregate as a ground cover with plant pots on top. Not only will it last for many years, it’s easy to manage and extremely versatile!

Visit one of our eight branches today or shop online to see our full range of decorative aggregates.
