If you plan to install remote access we can adjust the thickness of the timber and add a heavy bottom base rail to allow for this. This process is essential otherwise the extra weight of the automation kit could put strain on the timber, AVS would recommend you employ a professional automated gate installer if this is the route you are going down. Gate Safe, IOSH accredited is the newest training standards to comply with.

Our Range of Wooden Driveway Gates

Wooden Driveway Gates are provided in a full range of sizes and can be made in softwood or hardwood. Wooden driveway gates are normally made of Scandinavian Softwood or Iroko. These can be constructed in a range of styles to suit all tastes and different widths can be specified to suit each situation.

The Softwood gates are usually pressure treated, paints or stains can be used to change the colour if required on installation; we would recommend a yearly treatment if you don't choose to treat initially, Seasonite would be a good option for you.

Treating Wooden Driveway Gates

Our kiln dried Iroko (other wise known as African Oak) is a hard wearing stable hardwood timber, which in its natural state is resistant to decay and can be thought of as not requiring treatment. However AVS would recommend the use of a wood stain to ensure you get the most out of your new gate, and then yearly after that.

When you are treating any new gate, it is important to ensure the whole gate is treated not forgetting the underside.

The leading gate manufacturer Charltons recommend the use of Sikkens Cetol HLS & Filter 7 or Sadolin Extra.
