It's always advised to use a mains powered electric fence energiser where possible inside a building where it is protected from the elements. Mains powered energisers are more efficient and reliable due to the fact you have don't have to worry about batteries running low. Using a mains powered energiser is a cost effective way of running your electric fence.

See our voltage guide below...

Battery powered electric fence energisers are extremely handy for temporary electric fencing. Being portable means you can move the fence very easily at any time should you need to. We also have an earth and live lead set which is suitable for battery powered energisers.

The type of electric fence energiser depends on many factors including the length of the fence, amount of vegetation likely to grow on the fence line, type of animal to be contained or excluded, the fence line materials and conductors being proposed, and the power source for the energiser.

However, probably the main thing to consider is whether you have access to a power supply. Whatever your set up, we have all options covered.

Energiser Voltage Guide

Animal Minimum Fence Line Voltage
Horses 3,000
Cattle 3,000
Bull 4,000
Sheep / Goat 3,000 - 5,000
Pests 3,000
Pigs 3,000
Foxes 4,000 - 5,000
Deer 3,000 - 4,000
Pets 2,000 - 3,000

Voltage is also a factor as most small pets will require at least 2,000-3,000 volts, horses need at least 3,000 and to keep predators out you will need an electric fence energiser with a minimum of 4,000-4,5000 volts.

When setting up your electric fencing it is important to familiarize yourself with the instructions. As a general guide you will need to connect the energiser to the earth stake and to the fence line using lead out cable cut to the required lengths.

Which ever type of conductor you are using, if your fence line has more than one strand, you will also need to make an electrical connection to carry the current from the powered strand to the other strand or strands. There are various accessories for doing this.

Large mains energisers generally require a minimum of one x 2m earth stake and may require additional earth stakes if the soil is a poor conductor, i.e. light or sandy soil. Additional earth stakes should be placed at least 2m apart and connected with our lead out cable
