Now summer is sadly coming to an end, now is the time to prepare yourself for the autumn months ahead. And what better time to start than with the Harrogate Autumn Show this weekend? Taking place from 12-14th September, this special show will provide you with plenty of plants to gaze at and fun to be had for all the family.
Organised by the North of England Horticultural Society (NEHS), a charity set up to support and promote horticulture across the North, the Harrogate Flower shows are some of the most prestigious, independent shows in the gardening calendar. Looking at the website’s schedule for this year’s event, the Harrogate Autumn Flower show 2014 certainly seems to have a lot to offer. Let’s take a look at what you can expect…
The new festival marquee, otherwise known as the ‘Core’ will be holding an event called ‘Pip to Press’. Follow the humble apple’s journey from planting, to pruning, to finally pressing, and find out about the different varieties of this favourite fruit. There will also be willow apple weaving demonstrations, children’s activities and plenty of shopping opportunities to get stuck into.
Grow and Cook
Feast your eyes on the giant vegetables grown by their proud owners, all competing this September for the largest vegetable top spot! Marrows, tomatoes, potatoes and beetroot will all be on display in this fun competition. The Harrogate Flower show’s cookery theatre hosts will be demonstrating ‘A Fraze with Pippins each day of the show. Taking you back as far as the 18th century, the delicious apple recipes shown in the demonstrations can easily be replicated at home.
You will find a whole host of different exhibitors at the show, showcasing their products, as well as work being featured by established and up-and-coming garden designers and landscapers. The autumn exhibition of flower arranging and floristry is also not to be missed.
If you are attending this year’s Harrogate Autumn show or have visited before, let us know! It would be great to hear your thoughts on the show.
