Recently reported in Landscape and Amenity Magazine was news that as many as 250 people have now successfully passed DHF’s Gate Safety Training Course.
What is the DHF?
The Door & Hardware Federation, otherwise known as DHF, represents key installers and manufacturers of industrial, pedestrian, commercial and garage doors and powered gates. They also represent manufacturers of building hardware, architectural ironmongery and locks.
This long established association provides professionals in the building industry with technical expertise, knowledge, help and advice. Its members are helped with complying with the latest CE marking legislation and other health and safety and compliance legislation.
The Gate Safety Training Course
The DHF Powered Gate Safety Diploma course is a two-day training scheme that was launched at the end of 2013 by the DHF Powered Gate Group. The course, apparently considered to be the most comprehensive in Europe, is designed for installers and inspectors of automatically controlled powered gates, as well as those in charge of gate maintenance.
A number of training modules are to be completed during each course, including topics that cover all aspects of gate safety. Topics include law and regulations, risk assessment, testing and inspection, use of standards, and repair and maintenance.
The aim for the courses is to ensure safety standards are made priority to every candidate that is assessed.
Who is the course for?
DHF Powered Gate Group are obliged to put their personnel through the training scheme. Member companies who use the DHF Safety Assured mark can therefore rest assured that specifiers and purchasers have made a responsible choice when selecting and maintaining powered gates.
The training scheme is available to all DHF members and non-member individuals responsible for the safety of powered gates.
More courses are planned, including monthly training courses that have now been arranged through to Easter, 2015. It is looking very positive for the industry as the number of successful trainees is expected to rise to 500 by the end of this year.
DHF Training Officer, Nick Perkins explains, “Raising standards of safety in the industry continues to be the driving force of the federation. Thorough and comprehensive training for all those responsible for powered gate safety will underpin our commitment to significantly raising levels of powered gate safety.”
